I believe the mouth is the WINDOW TO YOUR HEALTH. I also believe that as individuals we need to take care of our health-nobody else is going to do it for us.

For years now I have been putting honey on my morning cereal and in my coffee. In the last few years, I have been on the Paleo diet, so I have not been eating cereal since grains are not allowed on the Paleo diet. But I still put honey in my coffee because I like the flavor. That being said, lately, scientists have discovered that honey improves many key measures of your health such as lowering blood sugar and improving cholesterol levels. However, the critical factor is that it needs to be raw honey (this means that it has not been pasteurized) and it works much better if it is from a single floral source. My favorite flavor is CLOVER honey, meaning that the bee’s making the honey mainly fed on the clover plant’s flowers. Clover is fairly common in Texas so
this mono-floral source is easy to get in Texas. YEAH!

The scientists doing the research observed that consuming raw honey from a monoclonal flower source lowers fasting blood glucose, total and LDL (bad) cholesterol, triglycerides, a marker for fatty liver disease, and some markers of inflammation! That is impressive since for years we have been told that honey is sugar and should be considered as such. These new results are surprising but a welcome revelation. Apparently, honey is a complex composition of rare sugars, proteins, organic acids, and other bioactive compounds that work together for these health benefits. The study comes from the University of Toronto and was published in the Journal of Nutrition Reviews. It appears that they are not saying you should add honey to your diet but rather you should consider
replacing sugar (If you use sugar or other sweeteners) with raw, monofloral unprocessed honey.

The researchers included 18 controlled trials and over 1,100 participants for their study. They concluded that honey consistently produced either neutral or beneficial effects, depending upon the processing, flower source, and quantity. They concluded that two tablespoons were the perfect dose and their trials lasted for 8 weeks. I also recently read an article from a Periodontist (Gum specialist) that suggested that we brush our teeth with raw unprocessed honey) because it did a great job of feeding the good bacteria in our mouth and hindered the growth of the bad bacteria in our mouth. So, it seems to me that honey may be a beneficial product for our oral health as well as our cardiovascular health. I remember as a child that if I had a cold sore or some kind of minor cut in my mouth that my grandmother would recommend placing honey on that area and it would heal up quicker. WOW, things seem to be changing back to what we did before there were antibiotics and drugs???

SUMMARYIt is obvious that your mouth is the window to your health. In my opinion, GOOD ORAL HYGIENE, EATING PALEO, AND BUILDING YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE! It’s never too late- Practice good oral hygiene, avoid sugar, and Go see your dentist and get back on track with regular cleanings. Follow that up by seeing your physician for a physical. Pay SPECIAL ATTENTION TO YOUR DIET AND YOUR ORAL HYGIENE! PLEASE ELIMINATE SUGAR, BUT IF NOT, PLEASE USE RAW UNPROCESSED MONOCLONAL FLORAL HONEY AS A SUBSTITUTE!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
