Are you getting sick of me telling you about SUGAR YET? My wife is sick of hearing about it but I somehow feel my mission in life is to let everyone know and understand how bad it is for you. But this week I came across something else that is similar to sugar but killing us just the same. I think it’s a monster! As you probably know, it is not healthy over the long term to have continuous blood sugar levels on the rise. This is associated with diabetes and prediabetes and something we should pay attention to. I think it is important to keep your blood sugar levels in a normal range but this particular carb is way more dangerous than sugar as its glycemic index is between 116 and 136. Sugar runs about 100 on the glycemic index.
So, what is this monster? It is a carbohydrate that is not classified as a sugar but it acts like sugar but much worse. It causes monster spikes in your blood sugar and it is named MALTODEXTRIN. It also comes in other forms and they put it into diet foods and sugar free products but it is not labeled as sugar. If you want to find out the science behind it, just Google Maltodextrin, but in my opinion please start reading the labels and avoid it like the plague! It is often found in foods like pastries, crackers chips, granola bars, drinks of all kinds, dairy products, salad dressings, soups, meat substitutes, sports drinks, rice, beer, artificial sweeteners and pasta! PLEASE PLEASE AVOID IT!
Now to a much more happy subject. I discovered an online service several years ago and have been on it since February of 24 and I love it. I think it really helps you to take control of your own health. It is called FUNCTIONHEALTH.COM It was developed by a very famous functional doctor named Dr. Mark Hyman M.D. What is a functional doctor? A functional doctor focuses on identifying the root cause of your illness by considering the whole body. An example might be that you have a lung infection, and he would look at the source such as smoking or an infection in the gums etc.
How Function Health works. It is a membership program that offers 114 blood lab tests (called biomarkers). You schedule through them to go to Quest labs (they are all over the country). These lab tests are valued at Quest to be about $15,000. Then you get insights from top doctors at FunctionHealth and you can track your health and progress over time. The cost for this program is $499. In addition, you get to go back in 3-6 months to follow up (its included in your $499) and see if their recommendations are helping. The follow up was about 50 more lab tests. In my case my cholesterol and my PSA both went down to a better level. I will be repeating this process again in April.
In my own experience, I haven’t had 114 + 50 blood tests done in the last 20 years from all doctors combined. If you log on to www.functionhealth.com and join it is an easy process. I receive no money from this service but if you use SDAVIS12 you will be moved to the front of the line. You can imagine that there are thousands of people around the world going for this service so I hope it helps. SUMMARY-It is obvious to ME that your mouth is the window to your health. In my opinion, we should all focus on our health every day and that includes brushing, flossing, dental cleanings and while we are at it, let’s visit our physician for that annual checkup. Also, extremely important to get on track with your regular dental cleaning appointments. PLEASE AVOID SUGAR AND MALTODEXTRIN! LET’S EAT HEALTHY. REMEMBER, THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION SAYS YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE MORE THAN 6 TEASPOONS OF SUGAR PER DAY. I VOTE FOR 0!
