I believe the mouth is the WINDOW TO YOUR HEALTH. I also think that as individuals we need to take care of our health-nobody else is going to do it for us. I like to look at health and nutrition from a simple common-sense approach. Let’s think about your car in relation to nutrition or diet. If you want your car to run at its best you don’t usually put the cheapest lowest octane gasoline in your car-if you do, in the long run, there will be damage to your engine, and you will need a new engine. In my opinion, your body is like an engine, and you need to put in the proper fuel, OR it won’t run right and eventually breaks down.

Based on several studies from around the world and one that we have done in our own office (Informal study), scientists confirm what we have known for a long time. If we put the wrong fuel in our car, we wouldn’t expect it to run properly. Yet nearly half of the daily energy intake of fuel (food) in the U.S. comes from fuel not designed for our bodies. God designed our bodies to eat certain foods for us to survive and thrive. In my opinion, the Paleo diet lines up with all of God’s designs. When we put in the wrong food, our bodies respond by mounting a defense that ultimately affects how well we operate and our overall health. The wrong food or fuel will damage your engine. If we were to change one thing in our diets that could make a measurable difference to our health and how we feel, it would be minimizing our consumption of ultra-processed foods and replacing them with more whole foods.

Even some seemingly healthy foods, like vegetables and fruits that we buy and are packaged in some kind of container, contain all kinds of chemicals and additives that God did not place in our food or expect us to eat. In my opinion, all of these additives and chemicals are like the wrong fuel in your car, and they can wreak havoc on your engine over the long term. I consider pretty much any food in a container to be bad fuel because of the additives. This morning I looked at several packaged foods in my office pantry. One was Peanut butter, and the contents were shocking. #1 ingredients were peanuts. #2 ingredient was sugar! Imagine that!! Then after that were things like Hydrogenated vegetable oil and some preservatives and some colorings. Why would all of that be there? Do you think those chemicals and sugar are good for us??? Then I looked at a Vinaigrette salad dressing and it was LITE, and it was worse. #1 ingredient was Vinegar, #2 was SUGAR-SHOCK, followed by natural and artificial flavors, potassium sorbate, xanthan gum, maltodextrin (fancy name for more sugar), calcium disodium EDTA, and blue coloring. What the heck are all of those things and why are they in my salad dressing? Do you think those are good fuels for our bodies? Next was my favorite out of the 3 I looked at-RANCH DRESSING-I love that stuff. #1 ingredient was soybean oil with buttermilk, #2 was sugar (AGAIN REALLY???!!), natural flavors, monosodium glutamate, phosphoric acid (I thought phosphoric acid would eat a hole in your clothes?), Propylene Glycol (I thought that was radiator fluid for your car??) more preservatives and more flavor. How bad does all of this have to get before we decide to eat something healthy, in my mind processed foods are the worst. My understanding is that 78% of anything in a package has SUGAR! I wonder what chemicals (Other than sugar) are in junk food, artificial creamer for coffee, colas, etc.? And then I question why cancer, diabetes, hypothyroidism, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, obesity, etc. is on the increase. Do you think that processed foods could have any connections? I DO! Please do yourself a big favor and eliminate Processed foods.

SUMMARY-It is obvious that your mouth is the window to your health. In my opinion, GOOD ORAL HYGIENE, EATING PALEO AND REGULAR EXERCISE COULD ADD YEARS OF HEALTHY LIVING TO YOUR LIFE!! It’s never too late- Practice good oral hygiene, avoid sugar AND ESPECIALLY AVOID PROCESSED FOODS, Go see your dentist and get back on track with regular cleanings. Follow that up by seeing your physician for a physical.
