As our office gears up for the end of the year and the beginning of 2024 with our SUGAR DETOX I wanted to just take time and mindfully acknowledge the transition ahead.  Actually, the New Year holiday is one of my favorites because I always sit down and rewrite my goals-I’ve been doing it for 60+ years.  I am always attracted to the possibility of new changes and transformation as well as enthusiasm and momentum.  So, I would like to ask you-HOW AND WHAT WILL YOU CHANGE IN THE COMING YEAR?  We are always changing right???  So, why not add some intention and some direction.  And I’ll be honest, I am a goal setting machine and every year I write down my goals for 6 different areas-  LOVE/WORK/WORSHIP/PLAY/FINANCE/HEALTH.  And being a doctor, I focus a lot on health.  In my opinion we should all focus on exercise and diet.  I also think that a FOCUS on just those two areas would add quality and quantity to our lives.  DO YOU AGREE?

So, here is my thing.  Whether we are talking about personal goals such as a shift in eating or exercise or whether I’m talking about helping my patients, it is very rewarding and very uplifting to me to witness changes in myself, my friends and family or my patients.  And the more positive changes I see, the more motivated I become.  That’s why I go to work and that’s why I discuss health with everyone.  And every day I read and understand more about health and all associated activities.  Yesterday, one of my patients showed up for me to check the health of their gums and in the last few months he had lost about 40 pounds by following the PALEO diet.  IT MADE MY DAY!

As a business owner, dentist, husband, father and grand father I’ve learned that not everyone jumps on board with what I say and that optimal results usually come from trying to figure out what motivates the other person.  My motivation is not always the same as yours.  So I try hard not to be too assertive or try too much pressure but sometimes knowledge can be very motivating.  For example, eating too much sugar or becoming diabetic can lead to cavities and gum disease and possibly an early death.  That is motivating to me, and I struggle to see why it would not be motivating to you.  But guess what, I don’t think my wife gets as motivated about this as I do???

So this year instead of trying to pressure everyone, I’m going to try hard to be more supportive and offer more options.  I’m also going to focus more on taking care of me and let others just see that what I’m doing seems to be working and maybe they will ask me how I did that.  First things first-Our SUGAR DETOX starts on about January 1st for 30 days.  I am going to try hard to not let Sugar cross my lips during that time and I’m going to report to you my failures and successes.  Wish me luck and please look for all of our emails and details on the SUGAR DETOX.  And, I politely ask that you join us.  Stretch your goals and discipline and see if you can also do it.  I wish you the best of luck and let’s hope and pray for a New Year with positive change for the better for all of us.

SUMMARY-It is obvious to ME that your mouth is the window to your health.  In my opinion, we need to eliminate SUGAR and processed foods from our diet.   Sugar, along with lots of chemicals and additives are in almost anything in a container.  Please switch to fresh foods and unprocessed foods and in my opinion, avoid the fast-food restaurants as they are loaded to the gills with all kinds of chemicals, sugars and salts.  Remember, the American Heart Association recommends only 6 tsps. of SUGAR PER DAY!  SO, FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY LET’S THROW OUT SUGAR AND GET HEALTHY FOR 2024.  The doctors and staff are behind you and call us if we can help.  713-781-2800.
