I am sitting at home today thinking about the 4th of July. It is usually an awesome holiday and we have some many things to be happy for in this Country. In my opinion it is still the best country on the planet, and it is the only one I want to live in. That being said I know we will all go out and eat a lot of things that will not be healthy for us so wanted to touch on 10 things that I think we should never eat again-starting July 5th.
- HOT DOGS-Just Google if hot dogs are healthy and you will probably not want to eat until next July 4th. They taste great but pack a lot of really bad ingredients.
- WHITE BREAD-We have to have a hot dog on a bun-right?? Most white bread has sugar in it-read the label. But even if it does not have sugar, the refined flour is converted into sugar shortly after it goes into the mouth and it basically provides almost no nutrients.
- ICE CREAM-It is basically nothing but SUGAR AND CALORIES and a lot of them. There is almost nothing nutritious about ice cream and it probably puts you about 500% over the daily allowance recommended by the American Heart Association
- SODA’S-Very similar to Ice cream. There is nothing nutritious in a cola of any kind that I can find and one cola puts you 50% over the AHA daily allowance recommended.
- CANDY BARS-Candy bars are also an overload of the daily amount but in addition to refinded sugars they are also loaded with unhealthy fats, artificial ingredients and are really horrible for the teeth and your belly. In fact, I think what doesn’t stick to your teeth goes straight to your belly. I’m not sure which is worse.
- PASTRY-Another belly builder commercial baked goods like donuts, cookies, cakes and pastry. Most of them contain refined carbohydrates, pounds of sugar, trans fats and preservatives and all of these can trigger inflammation and build belly fat. Love em and leave em!!!
- BREAKFAST CEREALS-Most childrens cereals and again NOTHING BUT SUGAR AND EMPTY calories. They provide almost nothing that your children need in the way of healthy food. And I think they provide lots of cavities for the dentist. Make sure your children do a serious brushing if they ever eat these. I prefer that you never buy them again.
- FLAVORED YOGURT-to make yogurt taste better many manufacturers increase the SUGAR CONTENT. This promotes more belly fat and inflammation! There are also artificial flavors which can really disrupt the gut microbiome and go straight to the belly.
- GRANOLA BARS-many of these bars are labels organic or natural or high in protein but if you read the labs they often have more SUGAR than all the other stuff put together. Again, this leads to belly fat and inflammation.
- FRUIT JUICE-We all think that fruit is healthy (and most of it is) but fruit juice is another animal. Unlike whole fruit, most fruit juice lacks the fiber we need and has tons of SUGAR ADDED. I got off on a fruit juice smoothie many years ago and it made my A1C (blood sugar) shoot off the wall.
SUMMARY-It is obvious to ME that your mouth is the window to your health. In my opinion, you and i both need to avoid the above 10 food items. in fact, i have put them on my “do not eat” list ever!!!
