#23 COLDZYME MOUTHWASH CLAIMS TO KILL 98% OF COVID VIRUS IN YOUR MOUTH

In all my studies regarding the COVID-19 virus there have been many mentions about alcohol and peroxide killing the virus.  I have been recommending to my patients that they should at least rinse once daily with an alcohol-based mouthwash just in case in might help prevent the virus.  It does tend to kill many of the bacteria that cause gum disease and can also help with bad breath.  What do we have to lose right???

Recently, a Swedish company named Enzymatica, claims that it did an in vitro study to test their mouth spray ColdZyme to see if it would have any affects on the COVID-19 virus.  The mouth spray is commonly used to aid with the common cold.  The preliminary results of the study revealed that ColdZyme can be used to deactivate the COVID-19 virus.

Enzymatica in a press note stated that ColdZyme can lead to deactivation of the Coronavirus by 98.3 %.

Enzymatica said the mouth spray forms a barrier in the mouth which is usually against the common cold. The recent study implied that this mouth spray could also offer a protective barrier against viruses that are harmful in nature such as COVID 19.  The barrier solution in this mouthwash has been made from glycerol and Atlantic cod trypsin.

Further, it noted that the deactivation of COVID-19 VIRUS took place in 20 mins and impacted 98.3 per cent of the viral content. The company said that the conducted tests were based on validated and standardized methods.

It appears to me and I believe that further research is needed but those numbers seem pretty impressive.  The main route of Transmission of the virus (according to the CDC) is by the virus landing on a mucous member (mouth, nose and eyes).  Once you have been exposed it takes about 3-14 days for symptoms to show up.  I’m curious, but once the virus lands on a mucous membrane, how long does it take to enter the blood stream or spread to the lungs?  If we rinsed with mouthwash and washed out our nose daily would that flush out and prevent the virus from infecting us?  I’m going to give it a try as I see nothing to lose.  Let me know what you think.

SUMMARY- In my opinion, all patients could benefit from brushing and rinsing their mouth 3-4 times a day. One article I read suggested doing a nasal wash (Such as Navage) daily. I personally am going to try all of that as it seems like we have nothing to lose and it’s just a good part of hygiene. Also, don’t skip your visit to the dentist. I think it is much safer to go to the dentist than it is to go to the grocery store. Stay Safe!!!
